Specialist Eating Disorder Counselling and Psychotherapy

I offer specialist psychotherapy for individuals experiencing eating disorders, using a holistic and depth based approach that honours both the psychological and emotional roots of these illnesses.

Eating disorders are rarely just about food. They are often expressions of deeper inner conflicts - ways the psyche tries to cope with overwhelming feelings, trauma, identity struggles, or the need to control. My work draws partly on Jungian depth psychology, which explores how symptoms can carry meaning from the unconscious and reflect parts of ourselves that have not yet been seen, heard or integrated.

Rather than focusing solely on behaviours around food, we gently explore the underlying emotional landscape - the beliefs, experiences, and inner narratives that may be driving the disorder.

A Compassionate and Specialist Approach

I have specialist training in working with a range of eating disorders including

Anorexia

Bulimia

Binge Eating Disorder

Avoidant/ Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)

Around 1.25 million people in the UK suffer from these illnesses, Many in secret. They are of all ages, genders and backgrounds - eating disorders do not discriminate.

Anorexia, which is tragically has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, though all eating disorders can be deadly. While this is the worst case scenario, there are many ways in which eating disorders severely affect the quality of life of both those suffering and those who care about them. They steal childhoods, devastate relationships and pull families apart. But, with the right treatment and support, recovery is possible.

Integrating Psychological and Physical Care

Eating disorder therapy is a specialist longer-term commitment, as healing often requires time, patience and consistent support.

In some cases, it may be necessary to work alongside your GP or other healthcare professionals to ensure that physical health is being monitored and supported alongside the psychological work. This collaborative approach ensures that both mind and body are cared for safely.

All of this will be discussed during our initial consulatation and contracting process, where we can explore whether working together feels appropriate for your needs.

A jungian Lens: Understanding the deeper story

From jungian perspective, eating disorders can sometimes be understood as symbolic attempts by the psyche to communicate something that has not yet found the words.

The struggle with food may reflect deeper themes such as:

Control and autonomy

Identity and self worth

Unprocessed trauma or emotional pain

A longing to be seen, valued or safe.

In therapy we may explore dreams, emotional patterns, relationship synamics, and personal history in order to understand the deeper meaning behind the symptom. This work allows indivduals to gradually reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been lost, silenced or split off.

The goal is not only symptom relief, but a deeper sense of integration, self understanding and emotional freedom

I offer face to face sessions in my Clevedon private practice and I offer online sessions.

Eating disorder therapy is typically most effective for consistency and continuity in the therapeutic work.

Each session is 60 mins long and £60

Free Initial Consulation

I offer a free 30 min online consultation assessment where we can talk about what you are experiencing, discuss how I work, and explore whether we feel suited to working together.
